  1. Thank you soooooo much Kaz - I love you!! I am curious and want to ask you one more thing. He is a baby out of the nest 3 days ago, so do you know why he has this bluey/purple coloured cere and not the pinky/mauve cere that baby cocks normally have?? PS I have named him George :-)
  2. Thanks so much for your reply Nadene - I appreciate it. Its nice to know its normal for him/her to rip up everything. My last budgie was a male and he didn't do that (he wasnt as hypo), hence the reason I questioned it. Mind you, he wasnt as young as this little one so I probably shouldnt compare their behaviour :laughter: Its also nice to know there is a "hometown girl" on this forum. I was hoping other members would have commented on the photos I posted yesterday so I could get some confirmation of my baby's sex, but so far I have received no response (well apart from yours on this thread). I notice you are a breeder. Have you known a male baby straight out of the nest to have this colour cere and not the normal pink/mauve colour? No pressure, but is there any chance my baby could be a female? Thanks again for contacting me .........
  3. Hello there my name is Coleen and I am new to this forum. I live in Campbelltown NSW and have owned 2 budgies in my life - a female who lived for 2-1/2 years and a male who lived for 10-1/2 years. Both broke my heart when they died. It has taken me almost 3 years to heal my heart and get another budgie, which I picked up on Wednesday. I was told this bird was just out of the nest and was a male. However it doesnt have a full pinky/mauve cere nor does it have a pinkish/blue/white cere. It appears to have a deep purple/blue cere which goes against the "norm" for a baby budgie this young so I am a bit unsure if it is a male after all. I signed up with your forum as it has been a while since I owned a budgie and I want to arm myself with info/tips on how to raise a budgie as young as this new one and to keep abreast of other informative posts on this site. I also would like to know the sex of my bird before I name him/her. I posted some photos yesterday asking for help re this and hope someone can tell me asap. I look forward to being a member of this forum. Thank so much.
  4. Further info that may help - this budgie appears quite feral at times ie flapping around the cage a lot, tearing up the sandsheet on the bottom of the cage, kicking seed out of the seed tray. It has also bitten me a few times now (quite hard) when it sits on my finger within the cage, but I am wondering if that is out of fear. I have had this budgie for one day only :-)
