  1. no I dont colony breed I seperate them, and that is the aviary for the,m when they dont breed. I have the purple (appears blue) and the yellow inside in there own breeding cage.
  2. I know she appears blue in the photo, however she is purple its just my camera, it always does that i show people the photo and they are convinced its blue but then they come over and they say she is indeed purple.
  3. okay so I got photos (not the best), and just follow the links, the last link is probably the best one. http://s1283.beta.ph...html?sort=3&o=0 http://s1283.beta.ph...html?sort=3&o=1 http://s1283.beta.ph...html?sort=3&o=2 http://s1283.beta.ph...html?sort=3&o=3 http://s1283.beta.ph...html?sort=3&o=4
  4. My female budgie has mated and has huge droppings, she's in and out of the nest box and in a post that kaz was talking in 2007 about egg bum with a photo is it possible that my female is going to lay. I will try to put a photo on tomorrow as I am on my iPod at the moment. But please help I am so excited but not so excited that I watch constantly. I just check them morning and night. Thanks for thoughts but will try to get photo up quickly.
  5. I love bush budgies they are so cute.
  6. I agree there Finnie, and sorry about your loss too.
  7. thank you I am so interested in it and they are expected to lay on Saturday or Sunday (23rd or 24th is the expected date of lay). I will update the post and add some of the babies when they are younger but of course older. If anyone else could say it would be valued to and does that mean I cant get a purple budgie?
  8. (Edit: I have merged both of your topics about this into one thread. It might read a little funny, as people had been posting replies separately in both of them. Now everything is all together. -Finnie) Hey I am wondering what colours I am likely to get from this pair the male is the yellow and the female the purple. (I hope the photos work if not just say). that is for the female and the male is
  9. yes I thought that. they are expected to lay on the 23rd of February, that is the 10 days after I first noticed them mating. and yes I will keep you all updated
  10. I know that but they are showing signs of it e.g.: Larger runny droppings, tapping on the inside walls of the nest box, constantly in the nest box, chewing the hole into the box bigger, etc.. and they just mated again.
  11. okay, so I have just one update to give you, They have mated every morning for the past three days (finally) I am so excited about it and the eggs should be here hopefully in about 6-8 days from today not three days ago (correct me if I'm wrong) I was colony breeding but I then read at a post about colony breeding that its a bad Idea and highly not recommended so I separated the pairs and now one of them has mated so I am glad that has happened as it could of ended up in death for some of my budgies or chicks. I was going to put some photos of the two but I don't know how if anyone can tell me that would be great thanks.
  12. yeah I thought that, but they are only at that pet store I talked about earlier on the other side of my town so next time I go there I will get two.
  13. yes the nest boxes are high up about 1.7 m high, and they are about probably about 15 inches apart. I am feeding them high quality seed and carrot + apple, but now silver beat too. there are 4 birds that are breeding in the big cage meaning that there are 2 pairs in there, the amount of nesting boxes I can add two more probably tomorrow and the sawdust I can put in when it stops raining because it is all the way down the back of our property and yeah it will probably stop soon. also the occasional treat, cuttle bone all the time and mineral blocks. plus I have recently been adding some mineral water instead of the mineral block. and the mineral water is what the pet store suggested and the pest store is excellent as the person who helps me breeds budgies himself and is very useful. thanks for your info I appreciate all the help and I will update this post when the lay and hatch!
  14. thnx so much I am so excited for mine to breed!!!
  15. sorry meant a month and only go in the cage at the max 1 time a day, other than that I stand outside and look once a day also. but they don't care and only for about 2 mins. also the females dropping are larger I read that this means they are ready to breed?
  16. I will feed them silver beet and have got a cuttle bone and mineral block and what if their ceres are crusty thanks so much for a quick reply
  17. Hey everyone, I have had trouble breeding budgies and was wondering what I am doing wrong. so I will go into details, 1. I have had breeding budgies for two years, 2. the cage is big enough and there are two pairs with two nesting boxes which are big enough, 3. the budgies that have paired up are definitely male and female and 3 pairs are currently together, 4. the nesting boxes were on a slight slant so we fixed that up with stands and I have put nothing in them (do you think I need to) 5. I give them the right nutrition 6. apparently the season has been not so good in Australia 7. cage is cleaned 2 times a week as it is a big cage 8. all three pairs are 12 months or over 9. I have a routine of when I clean the cage out 10. they are outside in the garden in a cage of about 1.5m wide and long and 2m high 11. 5 budgies in big one 2 girls 3 boys 12. 1 pair of bush budgies in a cage of 1 m long by 50 cm wide and 1 m high any others details needed I can give them to you. thanks
  18. Hey, I have just puyrchased two mating pairs at the age of 1 1/2 years old, They are actually bush budgies (tried to get photo on to here but it doesnt let me) any name suggestions? Thnx, if you have any info i would appreciate the information thank you Budgie_Mad
  19. Hey guys, I have a few questions, for anyone who knows anything about bush budgies. 1. Can you still feed bush budgies the same fruit and vegetables? 2. Are they faster breeders than, more common english budgies? 3. Are all the times from mating to laying an egg still the same? 4. is it harder to care for? I have read a little about bush budgies and they sound pretty similar to english budgies but I just couldn't find these sought of questions. Thanks for your help if you have any, as it is hard to find things about these little guys anywhere. From Budgie_Mad.
  20. Memories popped into my head, Of my little friend.
  21. It has been over a year since my favourite budgie sadly passed away, He was like my son, or another brother he was very special. When he passed away I found myself sitting in my bedroom, with nothing to do because he wasn't here to say hello every afternoon. Then there was those crazy little moment when he slept in his food, even though he had everything he needed to sleep in he just wanted to sleep there, it was as if he just was saying it was his food. I have often thought about him while I whistle If you're happy and you know it to my new budgie. But he has done well, he made me Budgie_Mad. GOOD BOY CHARLIE. ( as he said when he was praised) lol.
  22. Charlie is my fav budgie name, It isn't Japanese though. But the name is awesome.
  23. Hey I am new, I have tried to get my profile picture to fit to the right size but every time it says that it is to large for the frame. Please help, Kind regards, Budgie_Mad.
